Location Scout Location scouting for aerial event coverage in Las Vegas and beyond is a crucial step in understanding what sort of paperwork and authorizations needs to be sourced for drone flying. Dates are also a factor as temporary flight restrictions might be imposed during say such events as Formula 1 week in Las Vegas. The more in advance you can start planning operations the better. Conducting drone operations on the strips and close to airport is restrictive. Reach out with your proposed drone flight plans directly to see if those operations could be permitted.
Getting FAA Authorization Depending on the airspace, a specific permit from the FAA may be required. The process of obtaining FAA permit may take up to 90 days. We fly under Part 107 and discourage potential clients from taking unnecessary risks as that can result in fines of up to $5,000 for the pilot in command, drone and footage confiscation by the authorities and imposing of additional penalties. When in doubt it’s better not to fly.
Paperwork Additional county or city permits may be required, along w/ insurance considerations for drone flying in Las Vegas. Certain types of properties may require their own written approval and notice such as government buildings, casinos, hospitals. For flying indoors or at a specific venue plz check w/ the venue first to see if drone flying may be permitted. A written authorization is usually required.
Drone Flying We always fly within line of sight making sure the drone is visible at all times flying indoors and outdoors. We try not to rush the shots and make sure we have a clear of idea of what shot we are trying to pull off paying close attention to environment, the public present and most importantly everyone’s safety. Everything stays within FAA rules and regulations and we never put in jeopardy ourselves nor the client. If the shot is deemed unsafe to be pulled off properly on the day of the operations we present an alternative to the client if one does exist or try to get the shot some other way. Ultimately we make sure we deliver to the client footage they requested.

If you are considering requesting indoor drone flying footage be sure to get a written authorization from the venue. That usually takes some time. A verbal authorization is not a replacement for one in writing and will not absolve you from liability. Flying inside Las Vegas casinos is extremely prohibitive and carries massive liability, penalties, fines and must be approached with utmost caution. Flying drone indoors in presence of public is dangerous and every precaution must be taken.
